A Native Youth Entrepreneurship Program was recently initiated in Page, Arizona. The program will benefit 110 students from Page High School - a CI project site - and focuses on providing entrepreneurship education, financial literacy coursework, and business plan development exercises. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by Children Incorporated to stem the tide of youth unemployment and poverty in the Native American community.

As a result of generous funding support from sponsor Barry Chappell, a new school building is under construction at the Chandrakal Boarding Home in India. Over 300 children from our program and local community will benefit from this new addition.
Our Foreign Division director is preparing for a trip to CI projects in India and Sri Lanka early this summer to ensure continued success and communication with our projects in these regions. Divisional expansion will also be explored during this trip in order to assist a greater number of vulnerable children. Currently, we have 299 children in this division who are waiting for a sponsor. Your assistance will provide food, clothing, school tuition, school supplies, and access to medical care.

The Inner City Division continues to expand its assistance to children in urban poverty. Two new projects were added this spring: Maymont Elementary and Westover Hills Elementary, both in Richmond, Virginia.
A grant from the Richmond-based Tuckahoe Woman’s Club was provided to our Inner City Division for the purpose of purchasing 140 pairs of shoes for children at five of our project schools. Deliveries of these shoes were recently coordinated by CI staff. Visit our blog for photos of the delivery!
Fundraising for the annual Back to School Shopping program is in full swing as the Inner City Division prepares to take over 150 children shopping at Target in July and August. For many of these children, this shopping experience will be their only opportunity to get much-needed clothing and essentials for the school year. Half-way to goal, $15,000 is still needed to cover the cost for all of the selected children to go on this trip.

Schools in Mexico continue to be shut down as result of the Swine Flu epidemic. Our projects in Acapulco and Cancun continue to feel the effects of the virus. Job loss from the lack of tourism continues to rise, and many families are being torn apart because family members are leaving home to find employment opportunities in other cities.
Sponsorship of a Latin American child is now more important than ever. Less than $1 a day can help provide a child with food, clothing, and medicine during this time of tremendous need. We currently have 638 children in our Latin American Division who are waiting for the gift of sponsorship. You can provide that today!
Food costs are rising in our Latin American Division. Families and entire communities face the threat of starvation because they simply cannot afford the cost of even basic food staples. The creation of the Global Pantry Fund will address this challenge by providing additional assistance to our Latin American
